People are always interested in what their money is used for when donating to organizations - by performing tasks they can directly contribute in a way they feel is useful. It is easy to imagine that helping by giving time to do concrete tasks is more motivating than giving money. It would be great to see this kind of action happening in smaller communities as well and around everyday matters, not just catastrophies. Instead of paying a certain tax people could directly contribute and support things in the community they feel are important.
