Work Hard, Play Hard (then Die Hard)

I wonder if people struggling for decent quality of life in the enormous industrial cities in China, or tribes in remote highlands of Papua New Guinea are passionate about whatever it is they do to put food on the table. Humans are complicated creatures, but it seems logical that the less opportunity people have to work in an area of their choosing, the less likely it is that they are going to enjoy it.
